We kicked off with recap of the earlier show, then Graham Norton showed a hilarious clip of Lord Webber singing with Suzie Quatro. Anyway, the Joseph Mission this week was to seduce Denise Van Outen. She had them dress up in dinner suits and waited to be wooed one by one. I bet John Barrowman was jealous as hell. Keith couldn’t even open up a bottle of champagne. Denise dismissed him as a boy. She found Ben nervous. Lee giggled throughout and failed. Craig got right in there and snogged Denise. Daniel did well, amazingly. So did Lewis. I think Lewis is a better actor than singer, which is unfortunate for a musical. Denise said that only three of ‘em had enough sex appeal to play Joseph: Craig, Daniel and Lewis.
Then we were treated to yet another dreary group performance, The Beatles’ She Loves You. Oh, why do they torture us with this stuff? These guys want to be leading men, not chorus boys. Each week, Graham asks the judges who they thought was weakest. Denise chose Craig, John and Bill chose Lewis, Zoe chose Keith. None of that matters though as it’s the telephone votes that gives us the bottom two who have to take part in the sing off for Lord Webber.
Craig, Lee, Keith and Ben got through to next week, which left Daniel and Lewis in the sing off. Graham just loves to rub it in and at this stage he always reveals who got the lowest vote and this week, it was Daniel, which for someone who started off as one of the favourites, was a surprise. They had to sing a song from Les Miserables, Bring Him Home, which Lewis struggled with, but Daniel sang like the pro he is. Lewis was more emotional though and acted the song much better. It’s amazing how much better the Josephs are in the sing off than in the main show. Maybe it’s the threat of getting the chop which galvanises them into giving a great performance.
Lord Webber saved Lewis, which was appropriate as he was much more affecting during his performance, as Daniel just couldn’t muster enough emotion. He definitely lacks the necessary spark. It was a surprising result though and even Graham Norton was crying this time. Normally, he couldn’t care less. Um, maybe there’s been a little frisson betwixt our Graham and Daniel? Maybe. A little bit. During the final song, which I love, Lewis had tears streaming down his face and couldn’t stop crying. Ben looked pleased though. He should be, Daniel was the favourite along with Lee. Maybe he should've shown a bit more skin, like above. That would've gotten a few votes!
