This week's American Idol results show was full of the usual filler, though there were a couple of highlights for me. First up, that awful Bee Gees medley that the last four Idol kids had to sing. I dunno whether they'd just spent ten minutes rehearsing or what, but it was truly awful. Also, it was cruel of the producers to force them to sing all those gret Bee Gees hits after their mostly lacklustre performaces the previous evening. You could just see LaKisha Jones thinking "Damn, why didn't I sing Chain Reaction last night?"
The other bit I liked was a taped piece of filler with the Idol kids where they talked about their childhoods. We had lots of familiy photographs but the best one was of Melinda DoolittleMelinda Doolittle with her Mickey Mouse afro bunches. That was simply adorable. I so wish Melinda would come on wih a great big Strong Black Woman afro one week and really let rip! LaKisha said she had a nappy 'fro at school, which just made me think of Don Imus.
There was also a ridiculous bit of business with the cast of the new Fantastic Four film, The Rise Of The Silver Surfer. Michael Chiklis, Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba and a very bored and skinny looking Chris Evans had come along in an effort to publicise the new film. Now, I don't mind it when notorious or unlikely celebrities pop up in the American Idol audience, but I don't enjoy these obvious infomercials we've been getting lately.
Anyway, onto the good stuff, the elimination. Ryan told Jordin Sparks straight away that she was safe. Then he told Melinda that she was safe too, leaving LaKisha Jones and Blake Lewis in the bottom two. Aw, two of my favourites in the bottom two. Well, after last night, I guess it was inevitable and it was LaKisha who was eliminated. Poor LaKisha cried and cried through her song but she needn't be sad, I'm sure she'll have a long career out of this, she has years of gay night clubs, cruises and Dreamgirls revivals to keep her going.
And then there were three. Please God that Jordin goes next week. I want to see a Melinda and Blake final. By the way, what was up with Blake and his awful Chachi t-shirt tonight? Let's put it down to an abberation and he's back on form for next week.
