Anthony Kavanagh (or should that now be Kavana again) has been chatting to the Manchester Evening News and talking about losing in the final of Simon Cowell's Grease Is The Word:
"I'm absolutely fine about not winning. I came into this show to get myself back out there, so to get to the final at all was just amazing. There was a part of me that was thinking, this role will take up a year of my life. I was kind of thinking, is this for me? I'm really pleased because hopefully now I can go and do my music.
I'm through with being called Anthony. Kav's back. I've got a proper agent and I'm meeting with managers all this week and I'm going to go full steam ahead with my music. David Gest says he wants me to work with some of his hip-hop producers, so who knows what the future holds."
Now, I'm sure that some of you may think that all sounds a little bit like sour grapes and an attempt to put a positive spin on things, but I do see Kavana's point of view. After all, he is a solo singer, not an actor. Now he's back to being known as Kavana, does that mean we'll have him stripping off again and showing off a bit of flesh? Our Kavana was never too shy about that back in his previous pop days. Let's look at some old pictures to remind ourselves again.

Anthony Kavanagh’s luck runs out on Grease Is The Word

Aw, I’m sure you already know by now, but I just wanted to have a word about Anthony Kavanagh. Our Anthony didn’t win Grease Is The Word and get the part of Danny Zuko in the stage production of Grease. You have to feel for Anthony. It must’ve taken a lot for him to grit his teeth and go through the humiliation of a reality TV auditioning process. I think he did very well to get through to the final though and it’s great to see him get his confidence back. You gotta agree that our Anthony’s got a terrific voice.
So, what’s next for our Anthony? I hope he gets some work out of this. He should do, shouldn’t he? Oh, I do hope so, The guys at our gym were chatting about Anthony last week and everyone was well chuffed that he was doing so well. However, I don’t want his hairy ass back in Manchester and at the gym, spending the afternoon hacking up in the steam room. It’s so unhygienic!
Aw, I’m just kidding. I’m not that mean and Anthony really does come across as a very sweet guy. Anthony does have a hairy ass though. Very. I’ve seen it. But that’s a story for another day. In the meantime, here are some more photographs of Anthony from his Kavana pop days.

Grease Is The Word – the final two couples

Anthony Kavanagh didn’t perform in Grease Is The Word this week since it was the turn of the last four Sandys to get whittled down to two. Anthony did appear at the end though, once we had our four finalists. He said that this was his second chance at a career and he’s not going to let it go. Good lad. Let’s have another look at Anthony back in his pop years when he was known as Kavana and a mere slip of a lad.

Anthony Kavanagh through to the final in Grease Is The Word

As you know, I don’t sit through the entire length of ITV’s Grease Is The Word. I just check in now and again to see how young Anthony Kavanagh is getting on. It was the guys’ semi final with the last four Dannys finally getting the chance to do some solo performing. Anthony did well, was clearly the best singer out of all of them and rightly got put through to the final in two weeks time.
It’s a big turn around for Anthony and he acknowledged this before hearing the result. One of the judges said that Anthony’s more suited to a music career and doubted that he’s genuinely interested in the role of Danny in Grease. It doesn’t really matter if he wins or not now. Anthony’s gotten his confidence back and he’s getting back in shape again. I get the feeling that even if he doesn’t get the role, this isn’t the last we’ll see of Anthony.

Anthony Kavanagh still doing well in Grease Is The Word

After Any Dream Will Do, I switched over caught enough of Grease Is The Word to see that Anthony Kavanagh is through again to the next round. There have been some changes with the show this week, the Danny and Sandy couples have been swapped around.
Also, next week the format finally changes as it’s now going to be individual performances instead of couples. We’re having the Danny semi-final next week, with the last four Dannys. Two will be eliminated, followed by the Sandys having their own show the week after. This will leave our last two Dannys and Sandys for the final.
I reckon that after avoiding being in the bottom two throughout the series, Anthony will do even better as a solo performer. After all, that’s what he’s used to. Plus, he hasn’t always looked particularly comfortable with the ladies has he? Now, I’m not saying he’s gay, but don’t you agree that sometimes it looks like it’s the first time he’s ever been with a girl? You didn’t hear that from me though.
By the way, what the heck was Brian Friedman wearing tonight? He looked like a rooster! I guess he was tired of Sinitta getting all the attention with her skimpy outfits. He’s much better looking guy now, since he’s shaved all that curly hair off. The way he’s looking now, you so would, wouldn’t you?

On my iPod shuffle this week

Added to my iTunes and transferred over to the pink iPod shuffle this week:
Kavana - I Can Make You Feel Good (I used to love this back in the day when Anthony Kavanagh was about 18 with floppy hair)
Blake Lewis - Time of the Season (my favourite song so far from American Idol this year)
Talk Talk - It's My Life (I heard the No Doubt version in a club last week but I prefer the original)
Joni Mitchell - BIg Yellow Taxi (how could I not already have this one?)
K T Tunstall - Suddenly I See (it pops up in The Devil Wears Prada and I couldn't get it out of my head this week)

Anthony Kavanagh surprises by becoming one of the favourites in Grease is the Word

I managed to catch a bit of Grease Is The Word last night between boring bits of the Eurovision Song Contest (and there quite a few of those, weren't there?) as I'm keeping an eye on how the lovely Anthony Kavanagh, or Kavana, is getting on. Anthony and his partner Allison sang Rod Stewart' Tonight's The Night and they gave a great performance which the judges all loved and now they're beginning to look like one of the favourites to win.
At the beginning of the series, it didn't look as if Anthony would do that well as his confidence was very low and he was really out of shape, but now he's looking and sounding great.

Anthony Kavanagh (Kavana) gets through again in Grease Is The Word

Although I'm not blogging Grease Is The Word, I'm still keeping an eye on how the lovely Anthony Kavanagh, or Kavana, is getting on. We got through again last night and he does seem to have quite a fan base. There were lots of cries of "Anthony" from girls in the audience, so hopefully that fan base will see him through another few weeks. Besides, it's a fine excuse to dig out some more cute pictures of Anthony from early in his career. I do have some recent ones, but I'm saving those for later.

Anthony Kavanagh in Grease Is The Word

Now, I know I said that I wouldn't watch Grease Is The Word, but I managed to catch some of the repeat on TV this afternoon and stuck around long enough to watch Anthony Kavanagh, or Kavana as I remember him. Grease Is The Word really is low rent and some of the couples are so bad, it's turned into amateur night. Oh, and they're doing something kinda odd with the format as all the contestants have to perform as a fixed couple that won't be changed. I do like Sinitta though, sitting there in her see through dress with silver glitter eye shadow. Do you think she realises that she's in her forties now? I usually criticise people for not dressing in an age appropriate manner but with Sinitta, she can go ahead and wear her pink bikinis and fur coats all she likes, she's crazy enough to get away with it.
Anyway, my main reason for watching was Anthony Kavanagah. I think I was a bit mean in my post about him yesterday. I thought he did really well in the show and it's good to see him back performing again. I watched some of his old videos on YouTube and his MySpace the other day and it reminded what a great singer he is. He has what Simon Cowell calls the likeability factor and it should see him last another few rounds. I hope so, I love a comeback story. And for those who unkindly say he's a bit overweight, I can tell you that I've seen him down the gym nearly every day over the past year working out. Anthony clearly wants this and good for him that he's willing to put himself through the humilation of a reality TV show to get his career back on track.

Last night I had a dream about Kavana - that's Anthony Kavanagh these days

So, like the heading says, last night I dreamt about Kavana. In the dream, we were flat mates, pals and having a grand time. Oh, for those not in the know, Kavana was a teen pop star back in the nineties in the UK. The work has dried up over the past few years after moving to the US and when he ran out of money completely, our Kavana worked in a candle shop packing candles in the back of the shop in Melrose, LA. Now back in the UK as Anthony Kavanagh he's trying for a comeback in the UK reality TV show Grease Is The Word.
Now, my dream wasn't totally random as I do get to see Kavana most days in the flesh since we go to the same gym. So here's the thing, I would love for Anthony to do well in Grease Is The Word. Not just so he doesn't have to go back to being a candle packer. No, I want him to do well because it would keep him in London and away from my gym! I have nothing against the guy really, he's cute and all and seems to be a nice enough fella, but he does have this habit of coughing up God knows what each time he pops into the steam room. Seriously, he'll sit in there for like fifteen minutes, continuously hacking up. It's so unhygienic. He was very cute back in the day though, wasn't he?
Anyway, I'm not going to blog Grease Is The Word as it's is a little low rent. Yes, even for me. Plus, it's on at the same time as Any Dream Will Do and with all the crazy reality TV on these days, I need to prioritise and I much prefer my Joseph gay boys in their rainbow coloured coats. Besides, I've read that tonight, the Joseph boys are having to perform in loin cloths! I think I'll record it this week. It's going to be heaven.
